The University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar today announced the start of registration for Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) courses on Buddhist Studies.
The first sermon was delivered by Lord Buddha on Guru Purnima Day. On this occasion, the UGC chief said: “Considering the importance of this day, UGC has opened the registration for the following four SWAYAM Courses on Buddhist Studies.”
A total of four courses are offered on Buddhist Studies, of these three are being re-run on the SWAYAM Portal, due to a huge response from the learners, Jagadesh Kumar said. The SWAYAM courses are the History of Indian Buddhism, Buddhist Philosophy, Abhidhamma (Pali), and Buddhist Tourism.
These courses are offered for free and will carry 4 credits each. Students will be able to transfer the credits as per the UGC SWAYAM regulations 2021. Each course will be of 15 weeks and 40-hour duration. The registration has already begun. The courses will be held from August 1 to November 14, he said.
SWAYAM course registration for courses for Indian Knowledge System (IKS) was recently started. The 10-week course was launched to sensitize students to the contributions made by ancient Indians in the field of science, philosophy, and related applications and concepts. IKS courses will begin on July 31.
Prior to the launch of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on IKS, the commission had published a book on IKS.
