The Ministry of Education (MoE) has released the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2021- 2022 report. The Ministry has been conducting AISHE since 2011. The authorities aim to gather comprehensive data on several factors, including teacher enrollment, student enrollment, and infrastructure data.
The report covers 1,162 universities, 45,473 colleges, and 12,002 stand-alone higher education institutions across the country. As per the latest AISHE report, the number of enrollments in higher education has increased from 4.14 crore in 2020-21 to 4.33 crore in 2021-22. University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar highlights the issue of gender disparity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. He said that there is a lag in female participation in the fields of engineering and technology. He added that the UGC aims to continue fighting societal stereotypes, promoting role models in these fields. The commission focuses on creating an environment that encourages young women to pursue their science and technology aspirations confidently.
According to the latest AISHE study, an astounding 46,878 international students from 170 different countries have enrolled in various courses offered in India. The students belong to countries like Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the USA, and UAE. About 13,126 of these overseas students are from Nepal, and 3,151 are from Afghanistan.
