What exactly are the Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service?
The UPSC, primarily recognized for administering the Civil Services Exam (CSE), also conducts exams for various specialized services like administrative, revenue, police, or foreign service. Additionally, the Commission manages recruitment for other governmental services, including the IES, ISS, and CMS.
The Indian Economic Service (IES) seeks individuals from the economics field to assist in government policy-making and economic assessment.
Conversely, the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) employs statisticians who handle data analysis, research, and policy development across various governmental departments.
Similarly, the Combined Medical Services (CMS) exam selects medical professionals to work in governmental healthcare sectors, including the railways and municipal bodies.
