New Delhi, Delhi University is providing 1,347 seats under the Extra-Curricular Activities quota for the academic session 2025-26, encompassing a diverse array of student talents across 14 categories, ranging from divinity and dance to digital media and debate.

The 14 ECA categories for which DU is admitting students this year include creative writing, debate, digital media, divinity, fine arts, music-vocal, music-instrumental, dance, theatre, quiz, National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, and Yoga.

Each category comprises various sub-disciplines, enabling students to apply according to their individual interests and skills.

All admissions under the ECA quota will be coordinated centrally via DU’s online portal.

“The trials, allocations, and the entire admission process, including for the Divinity category, will be overseen by a centralized ECA committee rather than by individual colleges,” stated Prof Deepti Taneja, Convenor of DU’s ECA Admissions Committee, in an interview with PTI.

As per the official ECA seat matrix, this year, a total of 13 seats have been designated for the divinity category, distributed among four colleges: Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, and Mata Sundri College for Women.

These institutions are managed by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

Taneja further clarified that candidates in the divinity category are assessed based on their skill in ‘shabad kirtan paath’, with judges selected from the Sikh community.

“Candidates are required to bring their instruments and perform according to their level of proficiency. Judges may also request them to present an additional piece of their choice. Students are permitted to have one accompanist, either a vocalist or instrumentalist, depending on their primary performance area,” she added.

DU will release comprehensive guidelines for each ECA category, including divinity, on its admissions website prior to the trial dates.

Delhi University remains a favored choice for students nationwide, as stated by the professor.

“Through ECA admissions, the University is dedicated to acknowledging and fostering a variety of student talents beyond academic achievements. Under the guidance of Anoop Lather, Chairperson of the University Culture Council, DU has consistently received accolades at national youth events such as the AIU Youth Festivals,” Taneja remarked.

ECA admissions will utilize a composite score, allocating 75 percent weight to ECA performance and 25 percent to the CUET score. Candidates are encouraged to prepare diligently for the trials and to carefully select their course and college preferences, using the official seat matrix as a guide.

Prof Gurmohinder Singh, Principal of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, mentioned that students chosen under the divinity category play a pivotal role in the college’s cultural and spiritual activities.

“We select students who are knowledgeable in Gurbani. They represent the college at cultural functions and lead the college prayer during formal events. Additionally, we appoint a contractual Divinity teacher to instruct and guide these students. Other interested individuals are also invited to participate and learn,” he informed PTI.

The university has encouraged students to frequently visit the official admissions website for the latest updates.
