Meghalaya’s inaugural state-operated university, Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU), has announced the opening of applications for postgraduate programs for the academic year 2025-26, as stated by officials on Tuesday. The university is offering a variety of courses at its Tura and Shillong campuses, according to the Registrar, A Ch Marak, who spoke to PTI.
At the Tura campus, students can pursue postgraduate programs in Anthropology, Economics, Education, Environmental Science, Garo, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Sociology.
The Shillong campus will provide postgraduate (PG) courses in Commerce, English, Khasi, and Social Work, which are also concurrently available at the Tura campus, he noted. Established in 2011 through a state government Act, CWSSU operates from its permanent campus located in Tura.
The campus was built under the Special Plan Assistance scheme with a funding allocation of Rs 16.96 crore and was completed in December 2022. Spanning over 90 acres, the campus includes academic blocks, hostels, and administrative facilities.
The university is recognized under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, and has the authority to confer degrees independently. The University Grants Commission (UGC) officially granted its degree-awarding status in December 2024. The institution commenced its academic activities this year, with the Shillong campus expected to open soon.
Admissions to CWSSU’s PG programs do not necessitate the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), making the university an appealing choice for students throughout the state.
At least 11 colleges from various regions of the state have received affiliation from the university. These colleges also accept students without the CUET requirement, in contrast to those affiliated with NEHU, which must adhere to the CUET stipulation as mandated by NEP 2020.
As per official sources, the admissions for the PG courses will remain open for a duration of at least two to three weeks, and details regarding the application process and courses can be found on the university’s website.
