Understanding the KEAM Engineering Merit List Formula
Unlike many other entrance exams, KEAM Engineering ranks are not based solely on the entrance score. The final merit list is prepared using a 50:50 weightage system:
- 50% Weightage: Your score in the KEAM Entrance Examination (normalized).
- 50% Weightage: Your standardized marks from the Class 12 (Higher Secondary) board exams in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
The Standardization Process: To ensure fairness between different boards (CBSE, ICSE, and Kerala State Board), CEE Kerala uses a statistical standardization formula. This prevents students from one board having an unfair advantage due to “easier” marking schemes.
Eligibility and Normalization
- Engineering: To be included in the rank list, a candidate must secure a minimum normalized score of 10 in the entrance exam. (Exception: SC/ST candidates need only appear for the exam).
- Pharmacy (B.Pharm): The merit list is prepared based exclusively on the normalized scores of Paper I (Physics & Chemistry) of the KEAM entrance exam. No Class 12 marks are added for the Pharmacy rank list.
- Normalization: Since the exam was conducted in multiple shifts, CEE uses a Mean and Standard Deviation method to account for variations in difficulty levels across different sessions.
What’s Next? Mark Submission and Rank List
A crucial step remains for Engineering aspirants:
- Mark Submission Window: CEE will soon open a window for candidates to upload/verify their Class 12 marks on the portal.
- Standardization: Once the board marks are submitted, the council will apply the standardization formula.
- Final Rank List: The integrated rank list (Board + Entrance) will be released by June 10, 2026, which will determine your seat allotment in Kerala’s top government and private engineering colleges.
