The West Bengal government on Saturday has postponed the state board examinations for Class 10 and 12, which were scheduled in June. The decision was taken amid a raging second wave of COVID-19. The decision was taken soon after the government announced a complete lockdown from Sunday till May 30 to contain the spread of the disease.
Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said a revised schedule for the state board examinations will be announced later. “No secondary and higher secondary examinations will be held in June,” he told reporters at the state secretariat, ‘Nabanna’. He also added making arrangements for holding the Madhyamik examinations for Class 10 students and the Higher Secondary tests for Class 12 will be difficult during the lockdown period.
The Madhyamik exams 2021 were set to begin on June 1 and Higher Secondary tests on June 15. As per the updates from the WBCHSE, the West Bengal Board Exams 2021 for Class 10 and 12 will be held when the situation improves in the state. Giving further details, West Bengal chief secretary Alapan Banerjee said the dates will be notified around two weeks in advance.
Earlier, the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) had postponed the West Bengal Madhyamik exams 2021 (Class 10) to June 1 and later to June 15. Around 10 lakh students were expected to appear for the class 10 examination.
