The NIOS is largest education board of its kind in India in continuing education category. Every year several thousand students take examination from NIOS Board. Generally, examinations are held twice in a year during summer and winter season.
The NIOS certificates are treated as equivalent to certificates awarded from any other board of education. Admission to NIOS programmes are largely based on first come first serve basis.
