The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced the eligibility criteria for admission in BTech/ BE program in engineering and technology through lateral entry to the 2nd year. In a first-of-its-kind move, the AICTE in August last year announced to allow students to take admission in other branches of engineering through lateral entry.
The decision was made after the AICTE received requests from students regarding admission in BTech as an additional degree through lateral entry than the one already acquired.
The AICTE also instructed universities to offer suitable bridge courses such as mathematics, physics, engineering drawing, etc., for the students coming from diverse backgrounds to achieve the desired learning outcomes of the program. It further clarified that the BVoc course is treated at par with Diploma in Engineering and BSc degree for admission in BTech, BE program through lateral entry.
As per the latest notice, the eligibility criteria for admission in BTech or BE program in engineering and technology are as follows.
- A candidate should have passed a minimum of 3-years or 2 years (Lateral Entry) Diploma examination with at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category SC/ST) in any branch of Engineering and Technology.
- A candidate should have passed a BSc degree from a recognized university as defined by UGC, with at least 45% marks in aggregate (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category SC/Si) and passed l0+2 examination with Mathematics as a subject.
