Professor Himanshu Shekhar of Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has won Har Govind Khorana-Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (HGK-IYBA) 2020. The Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award is given by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The purpose of the award is to recognize and foster outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and looking to pursue research in the areas of biotechnology.
Professor Himanshu is Assistant Professor of the Electrical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar. He has BE degree from Manipal Institute of Technology in 2008; MS from University of Rochester in 2010 and PhD from University of Rochester in 2014.
According DBT website, the IYBA award carries a fellowship amount of Rs 1 lakh per annum for candidates who are in permanent faculty position and Rs 75,000 per month for those candidates who are not in regular employment along with a substantial project grant to pursue their innovative ideas at the beginning of their career.
