The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has announced the timeline for admissions to its various postgraduate (PG) and PhD programs for the academic year 2025-26. According to the schedule, the application process for the PhD, MTech, and MA courses will begin on March 25, with the academic session set to commence in July 2025.
IIT Bombay provides a range of 10 degree programs, including PhD and MTech, as well as several research-oriented options such as MS by Research in Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science and AI (CMInDs), and Healthcare Informatics. Additional offerings include a dual degree program combining MTech and PhD, a Master in Public Policy (MPP), a dual degree in Philosophy (MA + PhD) within the Humanities and Social Sciences, a Master in Development Practice (MDP), and a Master of Arts by Research (MA in Research).
Eligibility Criteria for IIT Bombay PG & PhD Admissions 2025
Prospective candidates can review the eligibility criteria for select courses at IIT Bombay as follows:
- PhD: Applicants must possess either a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, medicine, science, arts, commerce, or an MBA (with a BTech/BE background) to qualify.
- MTech: Eligibility extends to those holding a BE, BTech, BSc (engineering), bachelor of architecture, bachelor of planning, MSc, MCA, MBBS (medicine), BDS (dental), BPharma, BVSC, BPTH, BASLP, or a Pharma D degree (with a duration of four years or more).
- MTech + PhD (Dual Degree): Candidates who meet the MTech admission criteria may also apply for the MTech + PhD dual degree in specific disciplines. A single application form is utilized for both programs, and those accepted into the MTech program will be considered for the dual degree if indicated in their application.
- Master in Public Policy (MPP): Applicants must have either a two-year master’s degree or a four-year bachelor’s degree in arts, commerce, law (LLB), science, engineering, or medicine, achieving a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PWD) for arts and commerce, and 60% (55% for SC/ST/PWD) for science, engineering, and medicine from an accredited institution.
IIT Bombay is set to hold the entrance examination for its Master in Public Policy (MPP) program for the Autumn 2025-26 semester on May 6, conducted in offline format. Interviews for candidates who are shortlisted will take place on May 7. For the MA + PhD in Philosophy program, the written examination will be administered online over two sessions on May 3 and 4. Those who pass the written test will need to participate in an interview scheduled for May 6, 2025.

Ph.D. Application Fee Structure
For female candidates and those from SC/ST/Pwd categories, the application fee is Rs 150 during the regular period and Rs 650 during the extended period. For all other applicants, the fee is Rs 300 during the regular period and Rs 800 during the extended period. Payments should be made via SBI Internet Banking or the Online Payment System. There is no need to submit a hard copy of the application, and applications lacking online payment information will not be considered.

Admissions are determined through an interview, which is generally conducted.
