The Maharashtra government declared the creation of a satellite campus for the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, situated on a 70-acre plot in Moshi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune.
This satellite campus aims to enhance the institute’s distinguished reputation by providing world-class management education within Pune’s vibrant industrial and academic landscape, according to sources. Led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and formalised by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, this initiative reinforces Maharashtra’s status as a frontrunner in management education.
Chief Minister Fadnavis has held numerous high-level discussions in Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur over the last year to ensure the project’s success. The allocation of 70 acres in Moshi represents a crucial advancement in accelerating the project’s development.
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule voiced his strong endorsement for the initiative, remarking, “As we celebrate the vibrant occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the establishment of IIM Nagpur’s satellite campus in Pimpri-Chinchwad signifies a fortuitous milestone for our city. This industrial centre, which accommodates residents from all over the country and is well-known for its excellent Mumbai-Pune connectivity, will gain further prominence with the addition of this esteemed institution.”
Pune, often referred to as the ‘Oxford of the East,’ serves as a centre of academic excellence, industrial innovation, and advancements in the IT and automotive sectors. The new satellite campus of IIM Nagpur is expected to draw top talent from across the nation, promoting opportunities in education, research, and entrepreneurship.
With 21 IIMs currently functioning throughout the country, Maharashtra remains at the forefront with its established IIMs in Nagpur and Mumbai. The land acquisition process is currently in progress, with officials dedicated to hastening development to bring this vision to fruition.
The IIM Nagpur satellite campus will bolster India’s management education framework, generate high-value opportunities, and make a significant contribution to the field.
