NEET UG 2026 has been cancelled due to allegations regarding a ‘guess paper’ leak, according to the latest announcement from NTA on X. This decision follows concerns raised by central agencies about the integrity of the examination conducted on May 3.

With millions of students impacted, the government has intervened, directing a CBI investigation and declaring a re-examination to restore confidence in the system.

REASONS FOR THE CANCELLATION OF NEET UG 2026
The National Testing Agency stated that the decision was made after evaluating information provided by law enforcement agencies. These insights suggested that the examination process might have been compromised.

In its official communication, NTA remarked that the exam “could not be permitted to stand” after reviewing all evidence. The agency emphasized that this action was essential to uphold transparency and credibility within the national testing framework.

CBI TO INVESTIGATE ‘GUESS PAPER’ LEAK, 45 DETAINED
The Government of India has assigned the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a thorough inquiry.

The agency will look into how the alleged ‘guess paper’ was disseminated prior to the exam and whether organized malpractice was involved. NTA has committed to fully cooperating by providing all necessary records, data, and materials for the investigation.

In Rajasthan alone, over 45 individuals have reportedly been detained in connection with the NEET paper leak investigation. Initial reports suggest that the leaked ‘guess paper’ may have originated from a printing press, raising significant concerns regarding internal security breaches.

Sources indicate that a handwritten version of the question paper was circulated, suggesting a potential leak during the printing process.

NTA’S STATEMENT ON RE-EXAM
NTA has confirmed that NEET UG 2026 will be re-administered, with new dates to be announced shortly through official channels.

The agency also recognized that the re-examination will cause inconvenience to students and their families, but emphasized that proceeding with a compromised exam would have resulted in greater long-term damage to trust.

NO NEW REGISTRATION REQUIRED, FEES WILL BE REFUNDED
Students will not need to reapply for the re-examination. Existing information will be utilized.

  • Registration information and candidates will be carried over.
  • Previously chosen exam centers will still be valid.
  • No extra examination fee will be imposed.
  • Fees that have already been paid will be reimbursed.
  • New admit cards will be distributed prior to the upcoming exam.

WHAT STUDENTS SHOULD DO NOW
Candidates should depend solely on official announcements from NTA and steer clear of misinformation that may be circulating on social media. With new dates anticipated shortly, students might need to adjust their preparation strategies and remain ready for the exam.

GREATER IMPACT ON TRUST IN EXAMINATIONS
The cancellation once again highlights the issue of exam security in India. NEET is among the most competitive examinations, and any leak directly affects the fairness for millions of candidates.

By cancelling the exam and initiating a CBI investigation, authorities are demonstrating a zero-tolerance policy towards malpractice and striving to restore trust in the system.

At this moment, the emphasis shifts to the re-examination and the results of the investigation. While this decision has increased pressure on students, it also emphasizes the necessity of a fair and credible examination process.
