The University of Delhi has published the final timetable for undergraduate examinations, with certain papers scheduled to take place on Sundays, amidst concerns regarding the clarity of the date sheet.
University representatives indicated that the updated schedule was designed to enable senior students to complete their examinations sooner. This marks the inaugural instance of the university conducting eighth-semester examinations following the implementation of the fourth year under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, the Controller of Examinations at DU, stated that the university typically reviews at least two drafts prior to finalizing the examination timetable. “We had to reassess the dates as students in semester six and semester eight might need to attend other examinations, interviews, or job opportunities,” he informed PTI.
Tuteja noted that the previous schedule had examinations commencing on May 16 and concluding around June 19. “We have now adjusted the timetable so that examinations for semesters six and eight will occur on alternate days over the next 14 days starting from May 16. This adjustment will enable those students to complete their exams earlier, although it necessitates holding exams on Sundays,” he explained. Examinations for semesters two and four will proceed for an additional 14 days thereafter, with all even semester exams wrapping up by June 14, according to officials.
This arrangement was also essential to support students from semesters six and eight who may have outstanding papers, they added.
“The modifications to the date sheet were applicable solely to students under NEP and not to those who are still taking exams under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Learning Outcomes-based Curriculum Framework (LOCF),” Tuteja remarked.
