In a move to restore academic integrity and student confidence, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the revised schedule for the NEET UG 2026 examination. Following the nationwide cancellation of the May 3rd test due to “unavoidable circumstances” related to a confirmed paper leak, the re-examination has now been fixed for June 21, 2026.

The decision was finalized after a high-level meeting involving the Ministry of Education and the CBI, ensuring that the new test dates do not clash with other major national entrance exams.

Official Revised Schedule & Timelines

Event MilestoneOriginal DateRevised Date (Confirmed)
NEET UG Exam DateMay 3, 2026June 21, 2026 (Sunday)
City Intimation Slip—June 7, 2026
New Admit Card Release—June 14, 2026
Exam Timing2:00 PM – 5:20 PM2:00 PM – 5:20 PM
Expected Result DateJune 14, 2026July 15, 2026

Important Guidelines for the Re-Exam

The NTA has clarified that this re-conducted test is not an optional “second attempt” but a mandatory replacement for the cancelled May exam.

  1. Candidature Status: Only candidates who were originally allotted a roll number for the May 3 exam are eligible to appear. No new registrations are being accepted.
  2. Center Selection Window: As previously announced by the Education Minister, a brief 2-day window (May 18–19) will be provided for students to update their preferred exam city via the portal.
  3. Admit Card Protocol: The old admit cards issued for the May 3 exam are now void. Students must download fresh hall tickets, which will feature a new QR-code security layer.
  4. Reporting Time: Entry gates will open at 11:40 AM and close strictly at 1:30 PM.

Enhanced Security & Anti-Leak Measures

To prevent a repeat of the security breach, the NTA, under the guidance of the Union Education Ministry, is implementing the following “Safe-Exam” protocols for June 21:

  • Digital Command Center: A centralized AI-driven command center will monitor all 4,000+ exam venues in real-time.
  • Biometric Overhaul: In addition to fingerprinting, facial recognition will be used at both entry and exit points.
  • Dynamic Question Sets: The council will use a “Just-in-Time” printing or encrypted digital delivery model for question papers to minimize physical transit time.
  • Jammer Expansion: High-frequency signal jammers will be installed to block 5G and Bluetooth communication within a 100-meter radius of the centers.

Impact on the Academic Calendar (Counseling 2026)

The shift to a June exam date will inevitably push back the medical admission cycle.

  • Result & Merit List: The NTA aims to fast-track evaluation to declare results by mid-July.
  • All India Quota (AIQ) Counseling: Expected to begin in the first week of August 2026.
  • Academic Session: The first-year MBBS/BDS classes, which usually begin in August, are now likely to commence in mid-September 2026.

Expert Preparation Strategy: The Final 30 Days

Academic mentors suggest that students should treat this 35-day window as a “Precision Review” period:

  • Shift from Reading to Solving: Focus on solving 2024 and 2025 past papers and the cancelled May 3rd paper (if available via analysis) to understand current difficulty levels.
  • Biology Diagrams: Re-verify all NCERT diagrams; these often serve as the basis for high-scoring questions.
  • Mock Tests: Take simulated tests exactly from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM to synchronize your biological clock with the exam timing.
