As per to the announcement by senior official of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) the revised schedule will be announced later. The Telangana government announced that educational institutions would be temporarily closed from Wednesday and online classes would be offered to prevent the spread of coronavirus following a spurt in fresh cases in recent days, including from some schools.
All ongoing and scheduled exams of degree, PG and other courses under universities in Telangana have been postponed following temporary closure of educational institutions due to surge in COVID-19 daily cases in the state, authorities. The announcement was made on wednesday.
Several universities such as Osmania University (OU) and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) were conducting end-semester and supplementary exams for various UG/PG courses. Soon after the government issued closure orders for all educational institutions, including hostels, students were jittery as they were in a dilemma about examinations.
Putting an end to student’s misery, the collegiate education department issued an order on Wednesday stating “Registrars of the universities in the state of Telangana are hereby informed that the online classes/examinations can continue but classes/exams offline may be rescheduled in view of the orders issued by the government.” “Revised exam schedule will be issued by us later.
For now, we have postponed all the UG/PG exams keeping in view the safety of the students,” said Papi Reddy, chairman, TSCHE. Not just state universities, even the University of Hyderabad has decided to pause the return of terminal semester post-graduate students and all research scholars (except the 2020 batch) to the campus. Two weeks ago, the university’s task force had recommended the return of about 2,000 terminal semester students if they wished to do so.
“After a review meeting held by the vice-chancellor with senior administrators and the task force, the university has announced that it was putting on hold all plans to start in-person or blended teaching classes until further orders. The academic units have been asked to continue all teaching online and conduct end-semester examinations also online,” read a press statement issued by the university.
There are about 1,200 students, including research scholars and master’s students, who are currently on the campus to complete their practical/laboratory/project/thesis work before they graduate in June. Meanwhile, all the medical colleges will continue to run classes and exams as per schedule as the government has exempted from this order.
Earlier, some universities had issued notifications that the ongoing supplementary/regular examinations of all UG and PG courses shall be conducted as per schedule.
