The Assam government has announced that the SEBA HSLC, HS exams 2021 will be conducted and that the board exam process will be complete by August 15. The decision was taken in the meeting called by the education minister with all stakeholders including the student union and parents.
Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu said, “We have identified enough exam centres that are outside the flood-prone zones where exams can be held seamlessly. Also, the cases of COVID-19 are also decreasing in the state. So, we are very hopeful,“. He also added that Students will be given the choice of papers and they would not have to appear for all papers,
Earlier, Assam Congress President Ripun Bora came forward in support of cancelling the SEBA board exam 2021 for Class 10 and 12. He also wrote a letter to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma requesting to follow the evaluation scheme in line with the CBSE’s internal assessment.
HSLC or Class 10 Board exams are conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and HS Board exam are held under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
Demands For Cancellation
The students of Assam have been demanding that the state government cancel Class 10 and Class 12 Board exams in view of the COVID-19 pandemic for the past few weeks. They had also campaigned on Twitter using #WakeUpSEBAAHSEC, #CancelAssamBoardExams, and #CancelAssamBoardExam to register their protest.
