Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced to use University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test (CSIR NET) 2024 scores as criteria for admission to its PhD programmes for the academic session 2024-25. BHU has stated that the comprehensive PhD information bulletin for 2024 will be made available on the official website, bhu.ac.in.
The university has announced that starting this year, there will be no separate research test for BHU PhD admissions. Instead, Banaras Hindu University is urging potential candidates to consider taking the UGC NET June 2024 or CSIR NET June 2024 exams for admission to research programmes. UGC has authorised universities to utilise NET scores for PhD admissions.
“Based on the public notification dated March 27 of the University Grants Commission, the BHU has decided that the score of the UGC/CSIR NET Examination, June 2024 shall be used for admission to the PhD programme for the upcoming academic session and no separate research entrance test will be conducted by the University,” reads the BHU official notice.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
JRF-qualified candidates are eligible for consideration under the RET-exempted mode.
Candidates who have qualified for the JRF, as well as those who have qualified for categories II and III of the UGC/CSIR NET June 2024, will be eligible for consideration under the RET mode.
Admission to the PhD program through the Research Entrance Test (RET) at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences will consider scores from the 2024 Agricultural Services Recruitment Board (ASRB) examination.
BHU has announced two pathways for PhD admissions: the Research Entrance Test (RET) mode and the Research Entrance Test Exempted (RET-Exempted) mode. The university clarified that previous NET scores will not be accepted for PhD admission in the upcoming academic session.
