A total of over 18.5 lakh students participated in the CBSE Class 12 board examinations in 2026, marking the largest cohort in the board’s history. For comparison, 16,92,794 students appeared in 2025 and 17,04,367 in 2024. This year-on-year increase highlights CBSE’s ongoing expansion of its affiliated network. The size of the 2026 cohort, with each student generating an answer booklet that requires scanning and digital evaluation, rendered the implementation of OSM both more logistically essential and structurally intricate than in any prior examination cycle.
