The University Grants Commission (UGC) now has given necessary approval for the recognition of qualification of a Company Secretary (CS) equivalent to Post Graduate (PG) degree. Regarding this a request was sent by Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) to UGC.
Similar requests were also made by Institute of Cost and Work Accountants (ICWA) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to recognize qualification of ICWA and Chartered Accountants (CA) equivalent to a Post Graduate degree. Further UGC has formed a committee to consider this request.
The 550th meeting of UGC was held on 18 February 2021. During this meeting commission has considered the recommendations of expert committee and declared CA, CS, ICWA as post graduate qualification.
This step will open research and work opportunities to CA, ICWA and CS professionals across academia and industry where minimum eligibility criteria is a PG degree.
