Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has altered the schedule of the admission tests originally planned for May 10 and May 11 for students from Jammu and Kashmir. This decision was made in light of the current circumstances and with the students’ welfare in mind. The university will administer the admission tests for Jammu and Kashmir students separately.
“This adjustment is intended to create an opportunity for those students from J&K who have applied but are unable to attend the admissions tests on May 10-11, 2025,” a statement from JMI indicated.
However, the admission tests for all other students will proceed as per the specified dates and times—May 10-11, 2025. The JMI admission tests commenced on April 26 and are scheduled to conclude on May 31.
Earlier this week, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association made an urgent appeal to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Jamia Vice-Chancellor Prof Mazher Asif, asking for the exams to be postponed for students from the region.
“The only route available— the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway— is congested, unsafe, and currently closed due to severe rainfall and landslides,” stated Nasir Khuehami, national convenor of the association.
“Numerous students are stranded in transit or unable to travel beyond Banihal. These exams are crucial for their future, and the anxiety among the candidates is evident…,” he added.
In their statement, the association urged the Ministry of Education and the authorities at JMI to either delay the admission tests or organize a separate round for the impacted students. “We are not asking for special treatment, just a fair chance,” Khuehami remarked.
In the meantime, JMI has reopened online admissions for 24 programs for the academic year 2025-26. The online application link will be active until June 10.
This decision was made to offer aspiring candidates, particularly those from rural and remote areas of the country who missed the initial deadline, another chance to apply for these programs, according to a statement.
The university emphasized that candidates who have previously applied for these courses do not need to submit a new application.
