The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has initiated the admissions process for its Diploma Course in Guidance and Counselling (DCGC) for the academic session of 2026. This course is intended to enhance the professional skills of teachers, school administrators, and educational staff, addressing the increasing demand for mental health and career guidance within schools throughout India. The program will incorporate both distance learning and in-person educational methods.

The course will be delivered in three distinct phases: an initial six-month distance learning segment from January to June 2026, followed by a three-month in-person contact program at designated study centers from July to September 2026, and concluding with a three-month internship at the participant’s local area or workplace from October to December 2026.
Who is eligible to apply?
Teachers, teacher educators, school administrators, and untrained guidance personnel from India are qualified to apply for this diploma course offered by the Council.
Individuals holding postgraduate degrees in psychology, education, social work, child development, or special education are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of one year of teaching or related experience, as outlined in the brochure. The minimum required percentage of marks for all target groups is 50 percent, with a 5 percent relaxation for SC/ST candidates.
Fees
Candidates who are government-deputed from central government-funded organizations are required to pay Rs 19,500. Those deputed from state or UT departments must pay Rs 6,000, while private candidates are required to pay Rs 30,000.
Candidates will be responsible for their own expenses related to board and lodging during the contact program. However, accommodations will be provided for non-local candidates.
