The central university in Meghalaya has been exempted from the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for the academic year 2024-25 as well, state chief minister Conrad K Sangma informed via social media and thanked union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan for the ‘special consideration’. The University Grants Commission has allowed the colleges affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to conduct admissions based on the ‘prevailing practice’, on the directions of the Ministry of Education.
“Happy to inform our students that admissions to affiliated colleges to Central University in Meghalaya have been exempted from CUET for this academic year. I thank dpradhanbjp ji for his continuous support and understanding,” said Meghalaya CM in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
As per the letter shared by the CM, the commission had already considered the request of the Nagaland government and allowed the colleges affiliated to the central universities in the state to take admission as per the prevailing practice.
“Based on the above referred letter, UGC has considered the decision was taken by the Ministry and agreed to allow admissions in the affiliated colleges of Central Universities in the State of Meghalaya and Nagaland i.e. NEHU and Nagaland University as per the prevalling practice by giving exemption from CUET for the academic year 2024-25 only. This issues with the approval of the Competent Authority,” the letter added.
For the last two years, the education ministry has been providing CUET exemption to NEHU due to the geographical conditions, limited digital connectivity, infrastructure, etc.
