The Central Board of Secondary Education has recently announced significant reforms regarding the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for the Class 10 and 12 board examinations scheduled for 2026.
The submission of the LOC is a crucial step in preparing for the annual board examinations.
This year, the board has implemented important changes to the LOC submission process, which are outlined as follows:
- Two-Board Examination Policy for Class 10
- The CBSE is introducing a two-board examination policy for Class 10, requiring schools to ensure that the LOC for all candidates participating in the board exam is submitted accordingly.
- The CBSE emphasized that the Main Examinations for Class 10, taking place in mid-February, are mandatory for all students, and thus, the LOC must be completed for every candidate.
According to the board, the LOC for the Second Board Examination for Class 10 can be submitted at any time after the conclusion of the first examination.
Linking of APAAR ID in LOC Data
The CBSE has also decided to incorporate the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID of candidates into the LOC data for both Class 10 and 12. As part of this initiative, schools affiliated with the CBSE in India will be able to submit the LOC for candidates possessing the APAAR ID. The APAAR ID provided will be verified by the Board upon submission of the LOC.
However, schools affiliated abroad are exempt from the APAAR requirement due to various administrative regulations and laws in those countries, as stated by the board.
In the meantime, the board has advised schools to prepare key information regarding candidates whose data will be included in the LOC. This information includes:
- Candidate’s personal details such as name
- Candidate’s Father/Mother/Guardian’s Name
- Date of Birth (D.O.B.)
- APAAR ID (for schools located in India)
- Correct subject code and subject combination according to the scheme of studies
- Category of application – FS/Improvement/Compartment.
The board reiterated that schools must ensure that the information provided is free of errors and that only accurate data is submitted.

It should also be noted that only those students whose names are submitted through the online LOC submission process will be permitted to take the Class 10 and 12 board exams in 2026, as stated by the CBSE.
Portal for Children with Special Needs (CWSN)
It is important to mention that the CBSE has established a dedicated portal for CWSN to facilitate the submission of data for students categorized under children with special needs. The CBSE has indicated that the data and records of CWSN students should be gathered and submitted via the portal. The objective is to ensure that appropriate accommodations can be provided to these students during examinations.
