The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) faculty Prof. Biman B. Mandal has been awarded the prestigious Swarna Jayanti Fellowship by the Department of Science and Technology for the year 2019-2020 in the ‘Life Science’ category for his notable research in the area of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) of Government of India constituted the fellowship in 1997 to commemorate India’s 50th year of Independence. Contributions of researchers from the fields of engineering, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and Earth and life sciences are considered for this fellowship.

The Swarna Jayanti Fellowship Awardees receive a Fellowship of Rs 25000/- per month in addition to the salary drawn from the parent Institute along with a Research Grant of Rs. 5 lakh per annum by the Department of Science and Technology for a period of 5 years.
