Atabira area of Bargarh district has an epitome of perseverance and persistence — Jay Kishore Pradhan, a retired banker who recently qualified the NEET examinations to get enrolled into the VIMSAR Medical College in Burla for MBBS courses. Aged 64 years Jay Kishore Pradhan realized his adolescent dream of becoming a doctor and has set an example for many others.
Born in 1956, Pradhan first appeared for the medical entrance test in 1974, but could not qualify. Disheartened, he abandoned his dream and joined a bank instead. After the retirement from the State Bank of India (SBI) Main Branch as a Field Officer, he again started preparing for the medical entrance test. Supreme Court decision to allow students aged 25 years and above to apply and appear in the NEET examination reignited his hope. He appeared in the NEET tests and came out with flying colors.
