Mandatory Eligibility and Qualification Benchmarks
Applicants must fulfill specific educational achievements and age criteria as of the designated cut-off dates to avoid automatic disqualification.
1. Educational Requirements (Minimum 60% Marks)
- Core Engineering Branches (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, E&T, Industrial): Full-time regular B.E. / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engineering) in the relevant discipline from an AICTE-approved institution with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
- System (IT): First-class B.E. / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engg.) in Computer Science / IT, or a First-class Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degree.
- Geology: M.Sc. / M.Tech. in Geology, Applied Geology, or Geophysics with a minimum score of 60%.
- Rajbhasha (Hindi): Postgraduate degree (MA in Hindi) with at least 60% marks, supplemented by a graduation degree containing Hindi and English as core compulsory subjects with a minimum of 50% marks.
- Company Secretary: Any graduation degree combined with a formal Company Secretary qualification. Candidates must hold active Associate or Fellow membership of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).
- Note: A relaxation of 5% in minimum qualifying marks is extended to SC, ST, and PwBD candidates, bringing their benchmark to 55% where applicable.
2. Age Parameters (As of April 30, 2026)
- General (UR) / EWS Category: Maximum 30 Years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Category: Maximum 33 Years (3-Year relaxation)
- SC / ST Category: Maximum 35 Years (5-Year relaxation)

Application Fees and Processing Charges
The application processing fee structure depends on the social category indicated during profile setup:
- General (UR), OBC (Creamy & Non-Creamy Layer), and EWS Candidates: Rs 1,180/- (Inclusive of applicable GST components). This fee is strictly non-refundable.
- SC, ST, PwBD Candidates, and Existing Employees of CIL/Subsidiaries: Fully exempted from the payment of application fees.
Examination Blueprint and Selection Architecture
Unlike typical PSU recruitment drives that rely on GATE scores or multi-tiered presentation rounds, the 2026 Coal India MT selection model relies entirely on a standardized, single-stage screening process. There will be no interview round for final selection.
Computer-Based Test (CBT) Framework
- Structure: The examination is split into two distinct, successive papers completed in a single 3-hour session.
- Paper-I (100 Marks): Consists of 100 objective multiple-choice questions testing General Knowledge/Awareness, Reasoning Ability, Numerical Ability, and General English.
- Paper-II (100 Marks): Comprises 100 discipline-specific professional knowledge questions based on the technical or non-technical field selected by the applicant.
- Marking Rules: Each correct response adds one mark. There is no negative marking for incorrect or unattempted responses.
- Minimum Qualifying Criteria: General/EWS candidates must secure a minimum of 40 marks in each paper, while OBC (NCL) candidates require 35 marks, and SC/ST/PwBD candidates require 30 marks per paper to enter the final rank compilation.
Remuneration and Salary Scale
Selected candidates join as Management Trainees in the E-1 Grade scale.
- During Training Period: Trainees receive an initial basic pay of Rs 60,000/- per month within the E-1 scale of Rs 60,000 – Rs 1,80,000/-.
- Upon Successful Completion: Following successful validation of training performance, candidates are regularized as Assistant Managers in the E-2 Grade, moving into the pay scale of Rs 70,000 – Rs 2,000,000/-.
- Allowances: Basic pay is enhanced by variable Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), specialized cafeteria allowances under the leaf system, and performance-related pay (PRP).
