The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has once again lowered the qualifying percentile for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024. The qualifying percentile has now been set at the fifth percentile for all categories.
In a statement, the MCC noted: “In continuation of the NBEMS notice dated January 6, 2025, and following the directives from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, as per letters No. U. 12021/05/2024-MEC dated February 20, 2025, the minimum qualifying percentile for NEET-PG 2024 has been adjusted as follows.”
For candidates in the General/EWS, UR-PwBD, and SC/ST/OBC categories (including PwBD of SC/ST/OBC), the minimum qualifying percentile is now the fifth percentile. However, the NEET-PG 2024 Rank and percentile score, as published on August 23, 2024, remain unchanged, according to the NBEMS.
Earlier this year, the MCC had already reduced the cut-off for all categories. Students in the general and EWS categories who scored 15 percentile and above were deemed eligible for counselling. The revised cut-off announced in January required SC, ST, OBC, and PwD candidates to achieve a minimum of 10 percentile to qualify for NEET PG counselling.
In the previous year, the NEET PG qualifying percentile was lowered to zero for all categories. In 2022, the cut-off for general category candidates was decreased from the 50th percentile to the 35th percentile. For unreserved PwD candidates, the cut-off was reduced from the 45th percentile to the 20th percentile, while for SC, ST, and OBC candidates (including PwD), it was lowered from the 40th percentile to the 20th percentile.
