The Railway Board has announced the cancellation of all pending departmental selections for Group C positions that had not been finalized and approved by March 4, citing “irregularities” in the selection process, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
In a circular distributed to the General Managers of all railway zones, the board stated, “In light of various irregularities identified in recent departmental selections, it has been resolved to reassess the departmental selection framework. Consequently, all pending selections, LDCEs, and GDCEs within Group C that remain unapproved as of 04.03.2025 are to be considered cancelled.”
The board further instructed that no new selections should commence until further notice, with additional guidelines for managing the selection process to be provided in due course.
Earlier on the same day, the Railway Ministry made a significant decision to engage the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) to conduct all departmental promotion examinations via a centralized computer-based testing system.
These actions followed the recent arrest of 26 railway officials from the East Central Railway in Uttar Pradesh’s Mughal Sarai by the CBI, who were implicated in the alleged leakage of departmental examination papers, alongside the seizure of ₹1.17 crore in cash during the operation.
Prior to this decision by the ministry, departmental promotion examinations were conducted internally by various railway divisions and zones, which had recently faced numerous allegations of corruption and malpractice.
