The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education has expressed its confidence that the results for the first semester-based state board examinations for Class 12 will be released by October 31, as stated by Council President Chiranjib Bhattacharya. The WBCHSE Class 12 semester 1 examinations commenced on September 8 and concluded on Monday.
Bhattacharya mentioned that the subsequent semester examinations are scheduled for February, and the overall results derived from the two-semester evaluation will determine a candidate’s ranking and grade.
Approximately 6.6 lakh candidates, with 56.03 percent being girls, participated in the examinations using a new format that involved OMR sheets. This marks the first semester-based examination for Class 12 students in the state.
“More than 38 lakh OMR sheets are currently being scanned. The release of results may experience delays due to upcoming festival holidays over the next month. However, we are optimistic about publishing them by October 31,” Bhattacharya stated.
In this new format, the question papers for semesters one and three include multiple-choice questions aimed at enhancing critical thinking and reasoning skills. Semesters two and four incorporate SAQ (short answer questions) and DQ (development quotient) to preserve writing skills, he added.
The final examination under the annual system, which has been in place since 1978, took place in March of this year.
